My Journey in Data

My portfolio. My process. My passion.

Why Next Shift Analytics?

I’ve always been a passionate hockey fan, but I reached a point where I wanted to go deeper than the box score. I wanted to understand why some teams win, how certain players are so effective, and what the real, underlying drivers of success are. The answer, I found, was in the data.

The problem? Starting out in data analytics can be intimidating. I created Next Shift Analytics to document my own journey of learning this field… I’m a public learner, and my goal is to share every step of my process—from failures to breakthroughs—as I learn to work with data and apply it to the sport I love.

For the Sharp Fan & Bettor

My analysis is built to find a real, data-driven edge, while also providing fans with clear, digestible insights. As I continue initiating projects and building/refining my models,  I’ll be sharing actionable findings to help you make more informed decisions.

For the Aspiring Analyst

Transparency is the core of this project. I share my code on GitHub and plain my methodology in my posts. If you’re also learning data or just curious about the metrics, you’re in the right place.

About Me

My name is Domenic. I didn’t come from a typical data background—I graduated college in 2023 with a degree in Business Administration. But my lifelong passion for hockey led me to a new challenge: teaching myself how to code and work with data.

This site is my live, public notebook as I build these skills. It’s my portfolio and my primary tool for growth. My goal is to be fully transparent while providing valuable insights, sharing my work in hopes to bring a new perspective to fellow fans, or even inspire another beginner to start their own journey.
